New chair design, Mafell AZB oldtimer
And more...

The above chair has just been finished by myself, and although I'm going to change the design a little, I am happy with where the design is going.
The goal with this chair was for it to be a quick, no steam bending, and easy to build with kiln dried wood, and to a degree I did succeed.
This all came about after the dissatisfaction of my previous chair build, and also how long it took me to build.
To date, this is probably the quickest, and easiest chair I have built, even though the seat weave took an eternity. I did record the build and I am going to be editing soon, so keep an eye on my YouTube channel, should you be interested to see how i made the chair.
Some of the considerations I had when making the chair, were that the seat portion be comfortable for long periods of time.
I'd be able to sit diagonally on the chair (1 leg on the side, the other at the front), which i like to do.
I'd also like to be able to rest my elbow on the back rest.
And.... For it to look good!
With the new version, i want to change a few things.
Firstly the back rest needs more curve/bend. I should've added this to the first version, but i thought it'd be ok. It isn't, and needs more bend, and will be more comfortable. The curve top and bottom looks a bit too much, and needs reduced, to look better on the eye.
I also want to bring the rungs closer together. Again at the front, i dont like where the lower rung makes contact with my calf muscle, higher up and it will be more comfortable, i also think this will look better.
Finally, the weaving on the first chair is 3x3 strand weave. I think a 4x4 weave will look just as good, and be easier to weave, giving the extra space to get my fingers in.
Wood porn
Today’s beauty is brought to you by natural edge timber. The above is some beautiful spalted beech, that is destined for life as a counter top. You can see at the far end it has a cutout for a Belfast sink, and some fluted drainage channels.
It’s amazing to think that fungus is responsible for the amazing figure in the wood.

What impressed me
The above reel is an mafel AZB oldtimer being used by woodchuck official, which will cut a full tenon without moving the work piece 🤯
The shoulder is cut first, two cheek cuts, and then the other shoulder. The saw pivots around 180° allowing this to happen, in record speed.
If you've never seen this machine, I'd highly encourage you to click the reel to see it in action.
Woodwork ponder

How much weight will a dowel constructed chair seat take, before the seat/dowel will break, given that the dowel is oak, is straight grained, and 20mm x 450mm?
My recent build will take my weight (12st) standing on the weave. I am curious to know its breaking point, without breaking it of course 😂
Chair build video
For those that are interested, I have just uploaded my recent chair build. This one does have narration.
